Position Overview

The Radiation Therapist plays a crucial role in delivering radiation therapy treatments to patients, following the directives of a radiation oncologist while adhering to established protocols and standards. This position caters to a diverse patient demographic, including adults and geriatric patients.

Core Responsibilities

  • Administer radiation therapy treatments as prescribed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and practices.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients and healthcare team members.

Reporting Structure

This role reports directly to the Operations Manager of the Tate Cancer Center and collaborates closely with the Senior Radiation Therapist.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited radiation therapy program is mandatory.
  • Must hold a valid radiation therapist license in the state of Maryland.
  • Preferred candidates will have at least one year of clinical experience in radiation therapy.
  • Current BLS certification is required prior to engaging in direct patient care.
  • Strong knowledge of radiation therapy principles and equipment is essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary.

Work Environment

This position operates within a clinical setting, which may involve frequent interruptions and multiple demands. The therapist may encounter challenging situations with patients and is expected to work flexible hours, including potential on-call duties. Adherence to established radiation safety protocols is crucial, including the use of personal protective equipment.

Physical Demands

The role requires frequent standing, walking, and bending, with the need to lift and transfer patients as necessary. Manual dexterity for operating medical equipment and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals are vital.
