Reporting Structure

This role reports directly to the Operations Manager of the cancer center and collaborates closely with the Senior Radiation Therapist.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited radiation therapy program is mandatory.
  • Current licensure as a radiation therapist in the state of Maryland is essential.
  • Preferred candidates will have at least one year of clinical experience in radiation therapy.
  • Current BLS certification is required prior to engaging in direct patient care.
  • Strong understanding of radiation therapy principles and equipment is necessary.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective patient interaction.

Work Environment

This position is primarily conducted within a clinical setting, which may involve frequent interruptions and competing demands. The therapist may encounter challenging situations with patients and is expected to maintain professionalism at all times. Flexibility in scheduling, including rotating shifts and on-call duties, may be required.

Safety and Health Considerations

Adherence to established radiation safety protocols is critical, including the use of personal protective equipment. The role may involve exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, necessitating strict compliance with safety guidelines.

Physical Demands

The position requires frequent standing, walking, and manual dexterity for operating equipment. The therapist must be capable of lifting and transferring patients as needed, ensuring comfort and safety during treatment.
