- The Nurse Manager for Infusion Services oversees and directs the personnel assigned to the outpatient infusion area and oncology clinic.
- This role encompasses all facets of daily operations for infusion services and the oncology clinic, ensuring patient care is delivered through the application of nursing processes and principles of continuous quality improvement in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Responsible for executing various tasks to meet quality and regulatory standards, the Nurse Manager supports the Director of Pharmacy and Oncology in fulfilling the needs of both staff and patients.
- This position includes onboarding and initiating training for the oncology and infusion staff.
- The Nurse Manager is accountable for outpatient infusion services, including chemotherapy administration and processing authorizations for oral specialty medication prescriptions.
- Proficiency in IV insertions for adults, management of PICC lines and Port-a-Caths, phlebotomy, blood transfusions, conducting nursing assessments, and effective communication with ordering physicians and staff is essential.
- Acts as a liaison between staff and external departments/providers to ensure the needs of employees and patients are met. A high degree of self-motivation and initiative is required, along with the ability to work independently.
- Education/Training: Must have graduated from an accredited nursing program. A BSN or MSN is preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience as a registered nurse is preferred, with required experience in infusion and oncology infusion.
- Special Skills, Licenses or Certifications: Must be a registered nurse licensed to practice in Colorado. Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, are required. Strong customer service and telephone communication skills are essential. BLS certification is required; ACLS certification is preferred. ONS Chemo/Bio Certification is mandatory, while ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Certification is preferred.
- Language Skills: Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and clearly communicate in English at all times. Proficiency in additional languages is preferred. Must be able to listen and articulate thoughts clearly in both speech and writing.
- Must be able to walk at a rapid pace for the majority of the time. Ability to work at heights of 24-40 inches and to push wheelchairs is necessary. Must be capable of transferring adult patients between wheelchairs and chairs. Ability to lift, move, and/or position weights and patients over 50 pounds is required. Adequate hearing and sight are necessary to perform essential job functions. Work involves extensive use of computers, including exposure to monitors and repetitive motions for extended periods.
- Must be able to initiate CPR at all times and possess fine motor skills consistently. Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions is essential. Good mental health, dependability, and a high degree of self-motivation and initiative are required. Must be able to remain calm in escalating situations and demonstrate compliance with organizational competency standards and performance criteria based on established quality indicators. The physical demands include standing, bending, walking, and prolonged periods of sitting.
- The work environment is an outpatient infusion setting with exposure to work-related stress, environmental stressors, and frequent interruptions. The noise level is moderate, and there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and communicable diseases. Daily communication with the general public, co-workers, vendors, and patients is required. The role may involve potential liability due to public health concerns, chemical exposure, and equipment/product hazards.
