Responsibilities:

  • Administer chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under the direction and supervision of a physician.
  • Maintain knowledge of drug reimbursement procedures and complete all chemotherapy charge forms.
  • Assure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance, cleaning pumps after use, and proper documentation of pump usage.
  • Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, including problems and symptom management.
  • Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central lines catheter devices.
  • Administer all medications using correct medication product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique.
  • Display appropriate technical skills for the administration of chemotherapy and medications, including venipuncture, central line access, and infusion devices.
  • Document nursing assessments, patient teaching, and fluid and medication administration in the patient chart.
  • Communicate all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician.
  • Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient's chart.
  • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum two years nursing experience required, oncology experience preferred.

Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
