About the Job

We are seeking a skilled Food Preparation Specialist to join our team at the MWR Academy Officers Club in New London, CT. As a key member of our culinary team, you will prepare and cook a variety of menu items, including hamburgers, grilled sandwiches, eggs, quick meals, cold sandwiches, and salads. You will operate kitchen equipment such as gas stoves, electric ovens, steam kettles, and microwaves to prepare fresh, frozen, or canned vegetables and fruits.

The ideal candidate will have experience in food preparation, presentation, reading and following recipes, and performing simple arithmetic. They must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds and stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods of time. A Food Handler's Certificate or completion of food handler's training is also required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook menu items such as hamburgers, grilled sandwiches, eggs, quick meals, cold sandwiches, and salads.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as gas stoves, electric ovens, steam kettles, and microwaves.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and work areas.
  • Maintain rotation of food inventories to prevent spoilage.
  • Verify and store food supplies properly.
  • Perform various cleaning tasks such as walls, ceilings, floors, worktables, and walk-in refrigerators.
  • May carry out bar-related duties such as filling ice bins, replacing empty beer kegs, stocking beer coolers, setting up service bars and portable bars.

Requirements

  • Minimum experience in food preparation, presentation, reading and following recipes, and performing simple arithmetic.
  • Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend for long periods of time.
  • A Food Handler's Certificate or completion of food handler's training is required.
