Trauma Nurse Coordinator

Howard University Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Trauma Nurse Coordinator to join our team. As a Trauma Nurse Coordinator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction in our Trauma Unit.
Key Responsibilities:- Assume direct patient care responsibilities where required to ensure adequate care levels.
- Serve as a resource person for unit staff, assisting staff in identifying patient care needs or problems, and their professional needs, and in selecting suitable problem-solving approaches.
- Promote diversity, awareness, and sensitivity among staff.
- Identify and participate in resolving patient and staff safety concerns.
- Participate in developing the philosophy and goals of the department and communicate and interpret them to the unit staff; participate in orientation activities and serve as a change agent.
- Participate in the orientation of new medical staff to the unit operations when required.
- Participate as part of the multidisciplinary team in the coordination and delivery of patient care.
- Promote compliance with regulatory agencies standards and guidelines.
- Assist in identifying trauma patients appropriate for the registry.
- Promote unity within the shift, between shifts on the unit, and between units within the Patient Care Area; and promote and maintain effective relationships with patients, families, medical staff, and colleagues from other departments.
- Identify staffing needs and processes.
- Develop and update standards for supplies and equipment in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
- Monitor compliance with cost-containment measures and identify strategies to improve financial outcomes.
- Identify educational opportunities in collaboration with Trauma Service Team, including but limited to, Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Program Director and conducts in-services as needed on the unit.
- Support the progressive development and improvement of clinical performance and customer satisfaction.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in nursing in the Trauma.
- Must have worked in an acute facility within five (5) years of the date of the application.
- Current RN license to practice nursing in the District of Columbia.
- Certification in the following is required: TNCC provider, TNCC instructor - can be obtained within 1 year of hire, TCRN Certification preferred.
- Certified Basic Life Support Instructor required, Advanced Life Support preferred through American Heart Association.
