About the Job

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is seeking highly skilled and motivated individuals to fill the position of Internal Revenue Agent 12 Month Register. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting independent examinations and related investigations of complex income tax returns filed by individuals or business/organizational entities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent examinations and related investigations of complex income tax returns filed by individuals or business/organizational entities.
  • Examine and analyze accounting systems and records, including computerized accounting and financial information systems.
  • Research and apply the Internal Revenue Code and regulations, revenue rulings, and court decisions to determine the correct tax liability.
  • Communicate and deal effectively with others, including taxpayers, tax professionals, and other IRS employees.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must have a Certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a bachelor's or higher degree in accounting that included at least 30 semester hours in accounting or 24 semester hours in accounting and an additional 6 semester hours in related subjects.
  • Must have 1 year of Specialized Experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service.
