The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is seeking highly skilled and motivated individuals to fill the position of Internal Revenue Agent 12 Month Register. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of our tax system and upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
Job SummaryWe are looking for individuals who possess a strong background in accounting, auditing, and tax law, with a proven track record of success in conducting complex examinations and investigations. As an Internal Revenue Agent, you will be responsible for conducting independent examinations and related investigations of complex income tax returns filed by individuals or business/organizational entities. You will also be responsible for conducting package audits to determine that other required returns are filed and conducting concurrent examinations of these and other returns when warranted.

- Research and apply the Internal Revenue Code and regulations, revenue rulings, and court decisions to determine the correct tax liability.
- Examine and analyze accounting systems and records, including computerized accounting and financial information systems, to determine their effect on Federal tax liabilities and their adequacy for recording transactions affecting tax liabilities.
- Interpret and apply Federal tax law for individuals, business, and/or exempt organizations, partnerships, and corporations.
- Develop tax issues based on analysis and evaluation of overall business operations and financial condition.
- Prepare written reports and analyses, and articulate and communicate results and analyses orally and in writing.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Must have a bachelor's or higher degree in accounting or a related field, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to 4 years that included at least 30 semester hours in accounting or 24 semester hours in accounting and 6 semester hours in related subjects.
- Must have 1 year of Specialized Experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, or 1 year of graduate level education in a field of study such as accounting, business, finance, law, economics, management, statistical/quantitative methods, or computer science.
