About the Role

Covenant Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing high complexity clinical lab tests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform high complexity tests, including routine and specialized clinical lab tests, to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Follow established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record-keeping.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test processes deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Perform proficiency testing samples and maintain records demonstrating proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
  • Adhere to laboratory quality control policies, document control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Identify and correct problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
  • Assist in the orientation, instruction, and evaluation of students and new employees to the department.
  • Prepare reagents and supplies according to precise formulas as needed.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Monitor and maintain the laboratory information system (LIS) for patient accessioning and resulting.
  • Check communication boards regularly.
  • Plan work to ensure maximum productivity with minimal overtime.
  • Act as a resource person for phlebotomy, if trained appropriately.
  • Review abnormal patient reports daily and normal reports weekly.
  • Maintain and disinfect work areas.
  • Assist with coverage of the pneumatic tube system, processing, and distributing specimens.
  • Handle biohazard wastes according to policy.
  • Assist in the evaluation and validation of testing systems.
Requirements
  • Current Tennessee State License as a Medical Technologist.
  • Must successfully pass a color blindness test.
