The Medical Records Release Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Release of Information (ROI) requests related to patient medical records. This position offers a bonus opportunity for new hires.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluates records to be released by assessing requestor information in compliance with HIPAA regulations and gathering relevant patient data from various sources, including electronic, off-site, or physical records that correspond to patient requests.
  • Handles phone inquiries regarding various ROI matters.
  • Assists walk-in customers requesting medical records and accurately logs information into the ROI On-Line database.
  • Prioritizes and processes requests from physician offices, ensuring timely faxing of information as needed.
  • Records medical record requests in the ROI On-Line database.
  • Scans medical records into the ROI On-Line database.
  • Adheres to site facility policies and regulations.
  • Responsible for managing and documenting cash payments for requests at designated sites.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficient in using computer applications with at least one year of experience in data entry. Internet proficiency is required.
  • Ability to work independently and achieve production goals set by MRO.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with a proven track record in responding to customer inquiries effectively.
  • Attention to detail is essential for success in this role.
  • Demonstrated reliability and dependability in previous positions.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Previous experience in Release of Information within a physician's office or Health Information Management (HIM) Department is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is beneficial.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations is preferred. This job description outlines essential functions as assigned by management and does not prescribe all tasks that may be assigned.
