The Patient Advocate will play a critical role in ensuring that patients receive the medical assistance they need. This includes completing Medical Assistance Applications, screening for disability, and obtaining necessary documents to determine eligibility.
Key Responsibilities- Complete Medical Assistance Applications and screen for disability
- Obtain all necessary documents required by the County Assistance Office
- Update computer system daily and complete Medical Assistance production reports
- Take 1663's to appropriate physicians within 24 hours of completing the application
- Secure all releases, waivers, and questionnaires needed
- Leave each patient with a pending document's check list and follow up daily while the patient is still in-house (if applicable)
- Fax all necessary verification within the first 24-48 hours of completing the MA application
- Prepare applications for drop off at the County Assistance Office
- Work discharge files immediately and follow up with the County Assistance Office until determination has been made
- Assist with the Marketplace where applicable
- Report Red Flag and non-cooperative patients to management
- Use, protect, and disclose patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
- Must be bi-lingual Spanish/English (spoken and written)
- Ability to work at various client sites as needed
- High school Diploma or equivalent is required
- College degree in Healthcare field preferred
- 2 to 3 years' experience in the field of healthcare preferred
- 2 to 3 years' patient facing experience preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients one on one
- Ability to work independently and be detail-oriented
- Strong investigatory and researching skills
- Ability to use the internet and learn databases
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Ability to efficiently multitask
- Possess a high level of organization skills
- Adhere to the policies and protocols of the client while behaving professionally at all times
- Ability to meet monthly productivity goals
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook
- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to move around the work area; light lifting required; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals, and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear
- Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress
- Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal
