We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Academic Advisor to join our team in the TRiO Talent Search Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Program Director in the administration, implementation, and delivery of all program activities and services to participants in grades 6-12.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with the Program Director to ensure the goals and objectives of the Educational Talent Search project are met.
- Conduct outreach and recruitment of eligible participants in targeted middle and high schools.
- Provide financial aid and personal finance counseling to support participants in achieving their educational and personal goals.
- Provide academic advising and counseling information services to participants through structured individual and group meetings.
- Support college-wide activities related to student admission, financial aid, academic advising, registration, orientation, graduation, and overall guidance.
- Help coordinate programming relative to the ETS Project, particularly those related to recruitment, retention, and graduation.
- Plan and conduct workshops on time management, goal setting, career exploration, financial aid, college exploration, life skills, and other topics.
- Oversee and plan College Tours and Cultural Activities with the guidance of the Director.
- Develop and maintain a strong network of relationships between the TS project, the community, target school officials, and other stakeholders.
- Lead the development and implementation of age and grade level appropriate curriculum/workshops for the middle school components.
- Assist seniors and parents with financial aid and admissions applications and educate participants regarding the availability of financial aid.
- Input, update, and maintain student information by entering it into Blumen database on a daily and weekly basis and submit weekly reports.
- Perform public speaking activities and develop and conduct workshops on various topics.
- Assist the Advisor in delivering/implementing target schools' services, parent workshops, and field trips.
- Support and participate in both in- and out-of-classroom lives of ETS participants to enhance their development and learning experiences.
- Maintain detailed records of participants' progress, including academic, social, personal, and other relevant information.
- Assist with filing participant documents when needed.
- Monitor participants' academic progress through weekly contact in schools, phone calls, electronic communications, and other written correspondence.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate assigned participants' Individual Academic Plan (IAP).
- Assess and monitor participants' Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) to ensure they are on track for graduation.
- Assist the Director with completing the program's Annual Performance Report.
- Conduct appropriate referrals for participants as necessary.
- Actively engage in the promotion and marketing of the ETS program.
- Assist with all aspects of program review and student retention efforts, including surveys, focus groups, orientation sessions, parent workshops, and intervention groups.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with PSC faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians to assist program participants with academic advising, counseling, consultation, referral, and information services.
- Lead the TS Department with the assistance of the Dean of Equity and Inclusion in the absence of the TS Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned for the betterment of each program participant consistent with the role and required functions of this position.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual with a Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated sensitivity and experience working with participants from low-income, disadvantaged educational backgrounds. A minimum of two years of experience advising, counseling, or volunteer work in a related field and working with economically and educationally disadvantaged persons is required. FAFSA knowledge and experience in financial aid and financial literacy are also essential. The successful candidate will have a proven commitment to the target participant population and proven leadership experience.
Preferred qualifications include experience working with TRIO Programs, experience working in a community college, and working knowledge of Title IV-Federal Financial Aid. Outstanding programming skills designed to enhance the quality of the academic and personal lives of low-income, first-generation, and disabled participants are also desirable. Experience with Datatel Colleague and Blumen software is a plus.
Work EnvironmentThe employee will typically work indoors in an environment protected from the weather. Travel is required 3-4 days per week to targeted middle and high schools. Physical activities include the ability to carry appropriate recruitment materials sometimes weighing up to 40 pounds.
