Job Summary:

The School Fiscal Specialist/Administrative Assistant is responsible for managing and executing payroll processes for all school employees while performing basic secretarial duties.

This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle both payroll-specific tasks and general office administration.

The specialist works closely with the HR, EMIS, and finance departments to ensure timely payroll processing and supports administrative operations within the school district.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required). An associate's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Preferred: At least 2 years of payroll experience, preferably in a school or public sector environment. Prior administrative or secretarial experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with payroll software systems, federal and state labor laws, tax regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.
Key Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong time-management and multitasking abilities.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with school payroll systems such as Aesop, PowerSchool, or USPS/State Software.
  • Knowledge of employee benefit plans and retirement systems (e.g., state teacher retirement systems).
