A hiring incentive of $2,500 is available for this role. This bonus is applicable only to new hires or those returning to employment as outlined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.

The Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Human Services is seeking a skilled Child Protective Services (CPS) Family Services Coordinator. Under the guidance of a Human Services Supervisor, this role involves managing cases related to CPS assessments and investigations.
The Family Services Coordinator is expected to exhibit advanced expertise in delivering Child Protective Services, possessing extensive knowledge of community resources to address client needs effectively. This position necessitates significant experience in crisis intervention and the capability to mentor and guide less experienced child welfare staff. Additionally, extensive court experience is required to prepare trainees for participation in legal proceedings as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Flexibility in working hours to accommodate training sessions, staff meetings, and court appearances. Be available for on-call duties outside of regular business hours.
- Conduct thorough investigations of high-priority CPS referrals regarding allegations of child abuse or neglect.
- Make informed decisions and develop plans for immediate action on new CPS referrals.
- Create safety plans and protective agreements to ensure the welfare of children involved in new cases.
- Perform assessments to identify client strengths and needs.
- Take action to safeguard abandoned, neglected, and physically abused children.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, mental health professionals, and emergency medical services during CPS investigations and assessments.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team consultations regarding children and families.
- Provide information and referrals to community organizations assisting children and families.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a human services discipline (such as social work, counseling, gerontology, guidance and counseling, family and child development, psychology, or sociology) along with three (3) years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience in a human services context. A valid driver's license is required. For Child Protective Services, two (2) years of experience in this field is mandatory.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be required to work beyond their regular hours in response to urgent departmental needs or city-wide emergencies.
