Job Title: Family Services Specialist II

Join the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Human Services as a Family Services Specialist II, where you will play a critical role in ensuring the well-being and safety of children and families.

Job Summary:

The Family Services Specialist II is responsible for conducting Child Protective Services (CPS) assessments and investigations, providing crisis intervention and support to families, and collaborating with community partners to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough and timely CPS assessments and investigations to identify and address child abuse and neglect.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to families in need, including developing safety plans and protective agreements.
  • Collaborate with community partners, including law enforcement, mental health professionals, and emergency medical services, to ensure a comprehensive response to child abuse and neglect.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team consultation meetings to discuss cases and develop strategies for supporting children and families.
  • Provide information and referrals to community partners seeking assistance for children and families.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a human services field, such as social work, counseling, or psychology.
  • Three years of experience in a human services field, with a minimum of two years in Child Protective Services.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends, and to perform standby on-call duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Forensic Interviewer Training.
  • Family Engagement Experience.
  • Two years or more of Child Protective Services Experience.
  • Experience Investigating Physical Abuse and Physical Neglect Referrals.
  • Crisis Intervention Skills.
  • Court Experience.
  • Child Welfare Computer Programs Experience.
  • Mental Health, Substance Abuse, or Child Development Training.
