Radiation Oncology Physics Associate

Position Overview:
The Radiation Oncology Physics Associate operates under the guidance of a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) within the realm of radiation oncology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine assessments of machinery, treatment planning systems, imaging, and patient-specific quality assurance (QA).
- Assist in the upkeep of physics and therapy apparatus, along with documentation and management of radiation oncology electronic medical records (EMR).
- Support the validation of innovative radiation technologies, including acceptance testing and commissioning.
- Contribute to the enhancement of existing quality control programs and assist with daily physics operations.
Essential Functions:
The Radiation Oncology Physics Associate is responsible for performing patient-specific radiation measurements and calculations, conducting quality assurance evaluations of photon beam characteristics and mechanical features of therapy equipment under the supervision of a qualified medical physicist. Participation in research and development initiatives in collaboration with Qualified Medical Physicists is also expected.
This role requires maintaining proficiency in the operation of radiation treatment machines, radiation measurement devices, treatment planning software, and associated applications.
Quality Assurance Duties:
- Assist in the execution of weekly, monthly, and annual QA for linear accelerators (linac) and CT under the supervision of a QMP.
- Support the brachytherapy physicist team to ensure safe and efficient treatment delivery.
- Perform daily QA for High Dose Rate Brachytherapy.
- Oversee and maintain QA equipment, ensuring proper calibration and inventory management.
Patient-Specific Quality Assurance:
- Conduct patient-specific QA for IMRT/VMAT photon plans following established protocols.
- Prepare necessary documentation for clinical protocol submissions and ensure compliance with credentialing requirements.
Implementation of New Procedures:
Assist the Medical Physicist in the introduction of new processes, programs, or workflows within the clinic, such as establishing new QA platforms or creating calibration sources for new brachytherapy programs.
Compliance and Professionalism:
Maintain a thorough understanding of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational integrity programs and standards of conduct, to ensure adherence to ethical and professional behavior.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Imaging Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or related fields is required. The position also demands strong computer skills, technical problem-solving abilities, flexibility in work hours, and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
