Key Responsibilities
- Gathers and organizes necessary documentation to implement fire prevention education initiatives at the unit level.
- Engages with the community to enhance understanding of wildland urban interface challenges, focusing on fire prevention.
- Investigates the causes and origins of wildfires using scientific methods during fire inquiries.
- Reviews, coordinates, and shares pertinent information related to wildfire prevention and mitigation efforts.
- Under the guidance of senior prevention personnel, assists in the development of wildfire prevention and mitigation strategies, as well as community wildfire protection plans.
- Works collaboratively with fire management teams across various programs to create a unified strategy for reducing wildfire hazards and risks in the wildland urban interface.
Employment Conditions

- A background security investigation will be necessary for all new hires, and appointment is contingent upon successful completion and favorable adjudication.

- A valid state driver's license is required for this position.
- This role is classified as a Testing Designated Position, subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
- Candidates must undergo pre-employment and annual medical evaluations and physical fitness assessments.
Qualifications
Experience and Educational Requirements:
GS-07: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in federal service. Relevant experience includes implementing strategies and plans for wildland fire prevention and mitigation, coordinating educational programs with various stakeholders, and supporting wildfire investigations.
Firefighter Retirement Coverage: This position falls under the secondary/administrative firefighter special retirement provisions. Eligibility for special retirement coverage depends on the individual's work history.
Prior Wildland Firefighting Experience: This is a secondary-administrative role within an organization focused on firefighting, and prior firefighting experience is a mandatory prerequisite.

Physical Demands: The position requires arduous physical exertion for extended periods, including activities such as running, climbing, and lifting heavy items.
