Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Works Operations Specialist to join our team at the City of Cape Girardeau. As a key member of our public works department, you will be responsible for operating heavy equipment to maintain and repair the city's streets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment and vehicles to repair city streets, including asphalt and concrete surfaces.
  • Transport equipment to and from work sites, ensuring timely and efficient completion of tasks.
  • Assist the concrete crew as needed, including building forms, pouring concrete, and finishing concrete surfaces.
  • Respond to emergency call-out situations, providing prompt and effective support to maintain public safety.
  • Perform seasonal snow and ice removal duties, ensuring safe and accessible road conditions.
  • Repair concrete and asphalt streets as required, using specialized equipment and techniques.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the public works department.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency, with a minimum of three years of experience in heavy equipment operation on construction sites.
  • Must comply with Missouri CDL requirements and possess a valid Class "B" or better CDL.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of six months of experience in street sweeper operation.
Benefits

  • Two days of personal leave per fiscal year, subject to employment on July 1.

  • City-paid monthly life insurance, employee-only (one times annual salary up to $50,000).
  • Optional group term life insurance, purchased at employee expense.
  • Optional vision insurance, purchased at employee expense.
  • Voluntary deferred compensation plan, not matched by the City.
  • Retirement (LAGERS) paid by the City, Missouri LAGERS - A Secure Retirement for All.
  • Total compensation value (hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $27.11 hourly/$56,387 yearly.
Selection Process

Before final appointment, the successful applicant will be required to successfully complete a drug test, background investigation, and pre-employment physical.
