Position Summary

This role involves full-time responsibilities as a Broadcast Engineer / IT Technician / Master Control Operator, primarily supporting evening operations. The successful candidate will be tasked with the operation and maintenance of various broadcasting equipment, including cameras, tripods, servers, printers, wireless access points, and PC workstations.

Your duties will encompass both Engineering and IT functions, focusing on Master Control Operations. This includes the setup, control, and monitoring of television broadcast equipment to ensure the smooth transmission of programs and advertisements to the audience. Responsibilities will also involve on-air switching, dubbing, and the gathering of satellite feeds for broadcast purposes, as well as the preparation and operation of equipment during live broadcasts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair various components of broadcast television and audio equipment.
  • Install, manage, and maintain servers and workstations running various Windows operating systems.
  • Manage on-air playback systems and prepare video files for transmission.
  • Provide email and desktop support to users.
  • Support Engineering, Production, News, Promotion, and Sales Departments by delivering quality technical services.
  • Collaborate with Engineering management to implement new technologies and enhance the technical infrastructure.
  • Oversee Master Control playout, News content storage, Newsroom server, graphics, and editing systems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong background in Information Technology and networking skills.
  • Fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Availability for afternoon and nightside shifts.
  • Willingness to respond to emergency outages as needed.
  • Ability to work extended hours when required.
  • Experience in broadcast television or a related industry is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AV switching, video encoding/decoding, and file transcoding is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Adobe editing systems is a plus.
  • Experience with remote desktop applications and relevant certifications are beneficial.
  • Experience with a Florical Master Control System is an asset.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

The Broadcast Technology Specialist must be capable of standing, sitting, reaching, climbing, and conducting telephone conversations. The role requires the ability to use electronic mail, write correspondence, engage in face-to-face discussions, and make independent decisions that affect co-workers' effectiveness. The position may involve working closely with others, both indoors in controlled environments and outdoors in various weather conditions. The individual must be able to lift and operate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and handle tools and controls. Repetitive movements are also part of the job.
