Orientation and Mobility Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to join our team at Savannah Association for the Blind, Inc. The successful candidate will provide assessment, training, and follow-up services in all aspects of orientation and mobility to visually impaired clients.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, and conduct assessment, training, and follow-up services in orientation and mobility in a combination of center-based and field-based settings.
- Ensure that training and course goals and objectives align with overall agency and program goals, objectives, and policies.
- Conduct evaluations to assess the needs, interests, capabilities, and desires of each student prior to developing their Individualized Rehabilitation Service Plan (IRSP).
- Provide regular direct services to clients, including training and support in daily living skills.
- Prepare reports and maintain client files in accordance with agency and professionally accepted standards.
- Maintain professional certifications and licenses, and stay informed about current trends and developments in orientation and mobility.
- Certification from the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS); or certification from the National Blindness Professional Certification Board (NBPCB) as a National Orientation and Mobility Certification (NOMC).
- Individuals who have completed all of the O&M curricula from an accredited college or university, are eligible for COMS or NOMC certification, and apply for certification within six months from approval as an eligible employee of the agency from GA DOL and attain certification within one year.
