Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team at the Virginia Department of Health. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will provide direct patient care in clinics and patient homes, following specific protocol and under the supervision of a RN or Physician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer oral, IM, subcutaneous medications and immunizations, as prescribed by a RN or Physician.
  • Interview patients for medical histories, counsel patients, teach, instruct, obtain lab specimens, and perform routine laboratory work.
  • Take vital signs, refer abnormal findings to a Physician, and prepare patients for physical examinations.
  • Assist Physicians during examinations and maintain accurate records of patient care.
Requirements
  • Licensure as a Practical Nurse required by state code.
  • Knowledge of techniques and practices of the nursing profession, public health practices, quality assurance concepts, teaching principles, decision-making, and problem-solving techniques.
  • Skills in performing technical procedures, communication, and interacting with clients and the general public.
  • Ability to document clearly and accurately using the health department's accepted form of documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Experience in phlebotomy and laboratory procedures.
  • Prior experience in a public health or medical office setting.
  • Bilingual.
