The City of La Mirada, CA is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Public Safety Officer I to join our team. As a Public Safety Officer I, you will provide exceptional customer service to the public, assist with community outreach and education, and support the overall mission of the City.
Key Responsibilities- Provide information and assistance to the public regarding City regulations and law enforcement matters.
- Assist in monitoring activities at City facilities and programs, and enforce provisions of the Municipal Code.
- Perform fieldwork, coordinate activities with public safety personnel, and provide support to community events.
- Utilize excellent customer service skills, provide information on and interpret City ordinances, policies, and procedures to the public.
- Observe and report Municipal Code violations and hazardous conditions.
- Perform administrative support functions, adhere to City and departmental policies and procedures, and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to prove eligibility to work in the United States.
- Must pass a written examination, background investigation, DMV check, and fingerprinting for the disclosure of any criminal record.
- Must be able to pass a physical examination, including a drug-screen test.
- Knowledge of community-oriented policing services, public relations and customer service practices, complaint resolution techniques, general law enforcement functions, methods and procedures, positive discipline techniques for youth, safe driving practices, report writing skills, and office methods and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, follow oral and written instructions, comprehend and carry out public safety policies, procedures, and regulations, maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public, and work within a team-based system.
- Training as an Explorer or work experience in law enforcement-related positions, military, working with youth, or a position with public contact.
- Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
- College coursework in Criminal Justice or any P.O.S.T.-certified basic law enforcement training.
