Position Overview:

The Yang laboratory, part of the Alzheimer Prevention Program (APP) and Center for Alzheimer Research and Treatment (CART) at Mass General Brigham, is seeking a dedicated Research Assistant II. Our mission is to enhance the understanding and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related conditions through a comprehensive approach that includes clinical data collection, biobanking, and translational research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in translational research initiatives, focusing on detailed immune profiling from Alzheimer's cohorts, plasma biomarker analysis, and cell culture studies.
  • Learn and implement various experimental methodologies, including flow cytometry, next-generation sequencing sample preparation, and cell culture techniques.
  • Contribute to the processing, aliquoting, and storage of biofluids such as blood and cerebrospinal fluid as part of the biobanking team.
  • Participate in the design and modification of research protocols, ensuring adherence to project goals.
  • Manage data collection, organization, and presentation, including statistical analysis and graphical representation of results.
  • Oversee laboratory inventory and ordering processes, ensuring efficient lab operations.
  • Support the training and evaluation of new staff in established laboratory techniques.
  • Collaborate with the broader research team, including the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases.
  • Conduct experiments independently and assist in the supervision of students and interns.

Qualifications:

  • A background in laboratory medicine, clinical medicine, cell biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry is essential.
  • A Master's degree or higher is highly regarded.
  • At least 3 years of relevant post-graduate experience is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to work.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, particularly with sensitive information.
  • Proficient in following protocols and directions.
  • Well-versed in computer applications relevant to research.
  • Experience in immune profiling and bioinformatics is advantageous.

Working Environment:

  • Standard laboratory setting with potential exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Supervisory responsibilities may include overseeing 1-2 students or interns.
