Job Title: Nurse Professional - 5 East Observation Unit

About the Role:



The Nurse Professional will work in the 5 East Observation Unit, providing continued assessment, additional monitoring, and additional testing for patients after they have been worked up in the ED. The goal is to determine the appropriate decision to either discharge or admit the patient.



The Nurse Professional will be responsible for assessing human responses and planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for individuals or families. They will provide leadership in a professional practice setting and contribute to building the team by helping others succeed through role modeling and mentoring.



The Nurse Professional will assign or delegate tasks based on the needs of the patient and the skill level of the RN, LPN, or support staff. They will consider maintenance of a safe environment, patient condition, complexity of the intervention, and predictability of the outcome.



The Nurse Professional will provide peers with both verbal and written feedback regarding clinical practice and role performance. They will share knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues and participate on an interdisciplinary team to evaluate clinical care or health services.



The Nurse Professional will promote patient safety initiatives and participate in department-specific quality initiatives. They will assure appropriate order sets are used and supervise, delegate, and evaluate assigned LPN scope of practice as appropriate.



The Nurse Professional will utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, evaluate, and implement a patient plan of care according to the individual needs of the patient as prescribed by physician, nurse, and hospital policy. They will derive culturally and age-appropriate expected outcomes involving the patient, family, and other healthcare providers.



The Nurse Professional will analyze the health status of individuals and families, comparing the data with the norm when possible, to determine patient care needs. They will assess patient reports/records change of condition and notify physician and/or supervisor and intervene appropriately and document accordingly.



The Nurse Professional will accept assignments in areas other than primary unit and perform duties within individualized competency. They will demonstrate a commitment to continuous lifelong learning for self and others and promote advancement of the profession through participation in professional organizations.



The Nurse Professional will seek both formal and independent learning activities using current research findings and other evidence to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge. They will participate in systematic peer review and obtain informal feedback regarding one's own practice from patients, peers, professional colleagues, and others.



The Nurse Professional will identify areas of strength, as well as areas in which professional development would be beneficial. They will meet time and attendance guidelines per hospital policy and continuously evaluate and assess patient and family satisfaction.



The Nurse Professional will participate in department-specific patient satisfaction initiatives and promote compassionate communication that is patient and family-centered. They will assess for and attempt to resolve patient/family concerns and utilize effective time management skills to complete assigned duties and responsibilities within established work shift.



Qualifications:




  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Current State of PA RN licensure or Current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
  • CPR certification
  • Certification in area of specialty (preferred)
