About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technician to join our team at Swedish First Hill. As a Surgical Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate surgical procedures by assembling instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
  • Work collaboratively with the surgical team to provide patient care in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the Surgical Services department and Swedish Medical Center.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and facilitate the progress of the surgical procedure.
  • Effectively coordinate equipment, supplies, and instrumentation according to surgeon's preference cards.
  • Collaborate with members of the surgical team in the updating and maintenance of preference cards.
  • Function competently within multiple specialty areas and serve in a flexible scrub role with minimal notice.
  • Recognize age and size of patient as a relevant factor and apply appropriate skills in preparation for surgical intervention.
  • Assist team members with positioning, moving, and transporting patients.
  • Facilitate room turnover, washing, and sterilization of instruments.
  • Competent in use of washer, autoclaves, and Steris.
  • Assist with preparation and draping of patient.
  • Anticipate surgeon's needs in supplies and instrumentation.
  • Apply knowledge of good sterile technique.
  • Collaborate with circulating nurse to uphold AORN standards as adopted by the Swedish Medical Center Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist as necessary in holding retractors and cutting sutures.
  • Initiate and maintain accurate sponge, sharps, and instrument counts as defined in policy and procedures.
  • Handle equipment appropriately and be familiar with operation and location of equipment.
  • Maintain skills in use of specialized equipment.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with all health team members.
  • Communicate procedure progress/problems to circulating nurse.
  • Concentrate on procedure in progress and keep conversation appropriate to setting.
  • Handle specimens according to policy.
  • Prioritize tasks and utilize non-direct care time efficiently.
  • Help others.
Requirements
  • Certificate of completion of a surgical technician vocational program or documentation of equivalent training.
  • Washington Surgical Technologist Registration upon hire.
  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6 months of experience in a hospital operating room.
