Facilities Maintenance Assistant

As a key member of the Hawaiian Humane Society team, the Facilities Maintenance Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the optimal operation, safety, and appearance of our campus facilities. This position reports to the Facilities Manager and is responsible for assisting with facility, grounds, and equipment maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performing routine maintenance tasks to prevent equipment failures and ensure smooth operations.
- Handling basic repairs and maintenance, including cost-benefit analysis of replacement vs. repair.
- Collaborating with contractors when specialized services are required.
- Diagnosing mechanical issues to determine corrective action plans.
- Assisting with repairs and maintenance of machines, equipment, and structures as needed.
- Performing light carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting tasks.
- Participating in events, fundraising, and disaster response as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environments as needed.
- Operate power equipment, including lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and welding machines.
- Use commercial kennel disinfectant, cleaning solutions, paint, herbicides, and other materials as required.
- Work a full-time schedule with 40 hours per week, with overtime as needed.
Requirements:
- Passion for animal welfare and commitment to the Hawaiian Humane Society mission.
- Courteous and professional demeanor when interacting with animals and people.
- Self-motivation and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to lift and carry 50-75 pounds.
- Eye-hand coordination, alertness, and attention to detail when operating power and manual tools.
- No limitations that would prevent handling or working around animals.
Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of motors, small appliances, power tools, hand tools, carpentry, electrical repair, masonry, painting, and plumbing.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of experience preferred.
