Anesthesia Technician Job Description

The Anesthesia Technician plays a vital role in supporting anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in their clinical roles. This includes setting up, caring for, and maintaining anesthesia equipment, as well as performing basic testing and maintenance on related equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide general and specific assistance to anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, and nursing staff on clinical activities that do not involve direct patient care or medication handling.
  • Clean, care for, and maintain all anesthesia equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Inventory and order supplies from purchasing, storeroom, and pharmacy as needed.
  • Collaborate with hospital departments to arrange for preventive maintenance, service contract QC inspections/repairs, and emergency repairs.
  • Perform light maintenance and calibrations of equipment as specified by manufacturer and approved by the Biomedical Engineering Department.
  • Work with the Biomedical Engineering Department to ensure compliance with JCAHO Standards.
  • Clean and care for reusable and/or contaminated equipment according to established standards/policies and procedures.
  • Organize and maintain records pertinent to stock data for verification and justification of budget.
  • Assist in providing basic nursing care to assigned patients.
Qualifications:
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician preferred.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Adheres to hospital policies/procedures relative to vendors, equipment, and supplies.
