Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Material Engineering Leader to join our team at Molex. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead material selection and development on elastomer and thermoplastic category materials for components in automotive connection systems, as well as new product development and modifications for legacy products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide fundamental knowledge and understanding of elastomeric and thermoplastic material behavior to enable successful development and qualification of seal and thermoplastic components in automotive connection systems.
  • Supplement above with product requirements and manufacturing knowledge of seal thermoplastic components in automotive connection systems and drive material selection based on performance to cost by working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure possessed working knowledge is synced with the latest development in the elastomer/rubber and thermoplastics in automotive connector field.
  • Develop material characterization packages to fully characterize elastomeric and thermoplastic material behavior for preferred materials by working with cross-functional teams to support material selection and digital twin development.
  • Develop and maintain material specifications that translate product requirements to material requirements.
  • Develop test plans and drive process for validation of material performance and analyze test results using statistical methods.
  • Enhance material databases to meet expectations of Product Engineers for material selection.
  • Lead root cause analysis utilizing structured problem-solving methods (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone).
  • Engage with external suppliers and cross-functional teams within Molex to successfully develop new seal and thermoplastic products and support existing products.
  • Develop documentation of the project scope, requirements, feasibility, and engineering workplan. Works directly with product engineering to capture needs and translates into an executable project.
  • Clearly and concisely communicate technical knowledge and experimental findings in written and verbal formats to peers, management, and customers.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously. Create/maintain engineering timelines, escalate barriers, and drive projects to completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering or Material Science.
  • 5+ years' experience with material formulation with rubber/elastomer and thermoplastic materials.
  • 3+ years' experience with manufacturing processes on rubber/elastomer and thermoplastic material components.
  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience to drive material selection and material characterization testing across elastomer and thermoplastic materials.
  • Some travel, as necessary; may be required (10%).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or Material Science.
  • 5+ years' experience with material formulation with rubber/elastomer and thermoplastic materials on Silicone-based elastomers, PA, PBT type thermoplastics.
  • 5+ years' experience with manufacturing processes on rubber/elastomer and thermoplastic material components with Silicone-based elastomers, PA, PBT type thermoplastics.
  • 5+ years of technical leadership experience to drive material selection and material characterization testing across elastomer and thermoplastic materials.
  • 5+ years' experience with product design with rubber/elastomer and thermoplastic material components.
  • Proficient in data analysis products like Minitab.
  • Proficient with basic Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Familiar with Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) technologies.
  • Familiar with parametric CAD systems (UG NX, Catia, Solidworks, etc.).
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and external suppliers to understand product manufacturing and procurement requirements to drive material selection.
  • Strong critical thinking, verbal, and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to express complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
