Mobility Specialist

The Springfield Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled Mobility Specialist to join our team. As a Mobility Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing educationally-based mobility and orientation services to visually impaired students with Individual Education Programs in the schools.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized education programs to meet the unique needs of visually disabled students.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement appropriate accommodations and intervention strategies in the classroom.
- Assist and guide teachers in understanding visual impairments and using appropriate classroom and environmental accommodations.
- Conduct thorough assessments and diagnoses of visual disabilities in conjunction with medical eye doctors' reports.
- Provide information, support, and counseling to parents and families in a multicultural and multilingual setting.
- Develop and maintain lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.
- Compile case history data on students as needed.
- Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and devices for visually disabled students.
- Masters Degree as a Mobility and Orientation Specialist.
- State Certification as a Mobility and Orientation Specialist.
