Housing Works is a pioneering organization in the social entrepreneurship movement, dedicated to providing lifesaving services to people living with HIV/AIDS. Our mission is to end the twin crises of homelessness and HIV/AIDS. We operate 10 high-end thrift shops in Manhattan and Brooklyn, as well as a Bookstore Cafe in Soho.

Job Summary

The Thrift Shop Assistant Manager is a key leader responsible for the overall operation of a community-based Housing Works Thrift Shop. As an ambassador for Housing Works, you will prioritize customer service, embody our Mission Statement, and work to create an environment and culture that reflects our Community Values.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Team Development: Work alongside the Store Manager to lead the training and development of the team, empowering employees to work together to reach organizational goals and objectives.
  • Customer Service: Ensure that the store provides exceptional customer service, including greeting, thanking, and assisting customers/donors.
  • Merchandising and Sales: Ensure that the store is merchandised in accordance with Housing Works standards and that sales goals are met.
  • Recruitment and Training: Work with the Store Manager to recruit, interview, hire, and train all associates.
  • Compliance and Operations: Ensure compliance with all Housing Works policies and procedures and ensure that all organizational deadlines and directives are met.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years prior retail management experience or equivalent experience in managing a team.
  • Skills: Excellent communication skills, interpersonal and team-oriented skills, self-starting, self-motivating, solutions-oriented mindset, and commitment to excellent customer service.

Housing Works offers a comprehensive benefits package, including three healthcare plans, PTO, educational benefits, and equal employment opportunities. Compensation: $19/hr - $21/hr commensurate with experience.
