Position Overview:

The Director of Credit, Institutional Group will be responsible for leading and motivating our underwriting team within Private Client Operations, reporting directly to the VP of Operations. This role emphasizes managing a team of expert underwriters, conducting high-level credit evaluations for substantial portfolio loans, and providing strategic oversight on intricate commercial real estate transactions. You will uphold the highest standards of credit quality, supervise production and performance metrics, and actively participate in credit committee discussions.

This is a full-time position based in our New York Office, offering a leadership role that is both strategic and tactical, within a rewarding work environment that encourages career growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Credit Leadership: Formulate and execute credit strategies that align with the organization’s objectives, ensuring effective risk management and credit integrity.
  • Credit Analysis & Approval: Perform comprehensive reviews and authorize loans ranging from $5M to $20M, while fully underwriting loans exceeding $10M for credit committee endorsement.
  • Credit Committee Leadership: Attend and present at credit committee meetings to address deal-related matters and identify potential guideline discrepancies, ensuring informed decision-making.
  • Risk Assessment: Oversee the analysis of various properties and borrower investments to pinpoint potential risks, ensuring thorough due diligence and informed decision-making.
  • Credit Summaries: Develop detailed credit summary reports that consolidate loan applications and analyses, providing a comprehensive evaluation of loans, properties, and borrowers for submission to Capital Partners.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor the credit underwriting team, promoting a high-performance culture and aligning their development with organizational goals.
  • Post-Closing Management: Supervise post-closing credit deficiencies, ensuring minimal errors and preventing unsalable loans.
  • Productivity & Turnaround: Ensure productivity levels and turnaround times meet management expectations, prioritizing underwriting, credit reviews, and team oversight to meet various deadlines.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Significant experience in credit analysis and underwriting within the real estate investment sector, with a proven leadership track record.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to inspire and achieve business objectives.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with senior leadership and staff at all levels.
  • Excellent business relationship management skills, with the ability to anticipate and fulfill the needs of business stakeholders.
