Job Description and Duties

Under the supervision of a sergeant, the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Specialist will be responsible for conducting routine inspections on commercial-type vehicles to ensure compliance with weight, size, registration, safety, and equipment requirements. The specialist will also inspect and test all types of commercial vehicle brake systems for compliance with the vehicle code and other applicable laws/regulations, referring violations to an enforcement officer for action when necessary. Additionally, the specialist will attend required training to stay up-to-date on the latest regulations and procedures.

Working Conditions
  • The facility is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Commercial Vehicle Inspection Specialists are assigned to one of three shifts and participate in a 9/80 Alternate Workweek Program: four 9-hour days, consecutive with one 8-hour day (on alternate weeks).
Special Requirements
  • A valid California Driver's License (CDL) is required for this position. Applicants must answer the questions addressing their CDL on their application and provide their CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
  • A Drug Screening must be passed prior to being hired.
  • A Background Investigation must be cleared prior to being hired.
  • Medical Clearance must be obtained prior to being hired.
