Position Summary

Experienced EPPA Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners serve as integral members of a multidisciplinary team providing excellence in emergency medical care in various treatment areas, including the Emergency Department, Fast Track, and The Urgency Room. APCs coordinate care with consultant services, recommend follow-up care, facilitate referrals, and participate in continuous quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides healthcare services to patients under physician supervision
  • Examines patients and performs comprehensive physical examinations
  • Compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as CT scans, x-rays, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal
  • Performs therapeutic procedures, including injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and managing infections
  • Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in providing continuity of care
  • Prescribes, administers, and dispenses drugs, controlled substances, and medical devices
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens
  • Creates and maintains appropriate patient records
  • Compassionately cares for and communicates with patients, family members, co-workers, and other medical professionals
Requirements
  • 1+ years of experience working as an APC in a tertiary, high-volume hospital emergency department
  • Completion of an accredited physician assistant or nursing practitioner program
  • Current licensure with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice or Minnesota Board of Nursing
  • Current ACLS, ATLS, and BLS certification
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple clinical tasks
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, responsibility, and ethical practice
Working Conditions

APCs work in a hospital emergency department and acute care clinic, requiring long periods of sitting and standing, and the ability to regularly lift up to 30 pounds. The environment includes work with a diverse group of patients with various degrees of illness. APCs are supervised by and work with several group physicians to provide care to patients.
