Senior Welding Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Welding Engineer to contribute to our esteemed organization.
As the Senior Welding Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include the formulation of welding methodologies and protocols for various welding applications and qualifications. You will oversee the metallurgical laboratory and production environments, ensuring that all technical specifications and welding operations align with Military Welding Standards NAVSEA and Boiler Pressure Vessel Code ASME Section IX. Proficiency in GTAW, PTA, Oxyacetylene, and Welding Automation is preferred. You will also investigate and assess welding defects and compliance discrepancies, determining the root causes and corrective measures while optimizing the use of welding personnel and equipment to achieve organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop innovative welding procedures, supervise the assessment of weld qualifications, and secure necessary customer approvals for procedures and qualifications.
- Provide technical assistance to welding production teams, analyzing and resolving welding defects to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Act as the primary technical liaison with clients and suppliers regarding welding matters.
- Evaluate and adopt new welding technologies, recommend and oversee the procurement and installation of new equipment, and develop training programs for personnel on the use of this equipment.
- Review new requests for quotations related to welding needs, coordinating with Contract/Sales and/or Project Engineering to provide welding plans and production estimates, including suggestions for new equipment as necessary.
- Ensure the preparation of weld records and maintain weld procedure and welder qualification documentation.
- Participate in administrative and production meetings to support engineering, manufacturing, and program management initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Engineering with a focus on metallurgy, materials science, or welding engineering.
- A minimum of ten years of practical experience as a welding application engineer in a manufacturing setting, with expertise in Oxyacetylene Hardsurfacing, PTA, GTA, x-ray quality structures, seal welding, as well as LASER and electron beam welding.
- Strong knowledge of metallurgical engineering, material properties, specifications, and heat treatment processes.
- Familiarity with critical weld joints and hardsurfacing deposits.
