Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications plan that aligns with the department's goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to identify and develop compelling stories about the department's research and achievements
  • Write and edit engaging content for various platforms, including newsletters, social media, and the department's website
  • Manage and maintain the department's social media presence, including creating and scheduling posts, responding to comments and messages, and analyzing engagement metrics
  • Design and develop visual content, including graphics, infographics, and videos, to support communications initiatives
  • Provide strategic counsel to department leaders on communications-related matters
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in communications and apply this knowledge to improve our communications efforts

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style to different audiences and platforms
  • Experience with content management systems, social media management tools, and other digital communications platforms
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field
  • Experience working in a higher education or non-profit environment
  • Knowledge of graphic design principles and ability to create visual content
  • Experience with video production and editing
  • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend events and to travel occasionally
