Patient Care Technician

A Patient Care Technician has accountability for providing high-quality care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This involves caring for patients with acute and chronic needs, including those with orthopedic and surgical conditions.
Unit Description:The surgical trauma unit at SCL Health provides comprehensive care to a diverse surgical patient population. Our team of skilled healthcare professionals work together to deliver evidence-based care, promoting patient-centered outcomes and exceptional patient experiences.

Responsibilities:- Respond to patient care needs by answering call lights, assisting patients with hygiene care, obtaining vital signs, and communicating effectively with the care team.
- Perform 12-lead EKG duties, wound care, stoma care, and specimen collection as directed by the RN or physician.
- Apply, check, and document restraints as directed.
- Assist with patient transfers, admissions, and discharges as directed and in compliance with safe patient handling principles.
- Order and maintain office and patient care floor stock/supplies.
- Perform the duties of unit secretary, including maintaining patient charts, responding to phone calls, and providing accurate information about the patient to the interdisciplinary team.
- Assist physicians and RNs as directed.
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCL Health and adhere to Service Behavior Standards.
- Demonstrate and adhere to the standards of infection prevention.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant training program.
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
- 1+ years of previous experience in a healthcare setting (preferred).
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
