Job Overview

As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse operates under the guidance of the Nursing Manager and collaborates closely with physicians to deliver exceptional patient care. This role is integral to the mission of the June E. Nylen Cancer Center, ensuring adherence to established healthcare standards and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Adheres to nursing protocols and procedures when providing treatments and administering medications.

2) Ensures a hygienic and secure environment for both patients and staff.

3) Executes essential patient care duties, including:

· Organizing appointment schedules and preparing necessary medical records.
· Welcoming patients and guiding them to examination rooms.
· Initiating patient documentation and obtaining necessary consents.
· Collecting and recording vital signs and relevant patient information.
· Assisting physicians during examinations and treatments, providing necessary supplies and medications.
· Clarifying procedures to patients and offering emotional support.
· Coordinating diagnostic and therapeutic services and escorting patients as needed.
· Completing discharge processes in accordance with physician instructions.

4) Manages inventory and ensures the efficient use of medical supplies.

5) Maintains cleanliness and functionality of medical equipment.

6) Ensures cleanliness of work areas and proper disposal of waste.

7) Responds to patient inquiries and coordinates necessary hospital orders and prescriptions.

8) Demonstrates leadership capabilities in emergency situations.

9) Administers IV therapies and performs defibrillation as directed.

10) Provides patient education on various health topics.

11) Upholds patient confidentiality and rights.

12) Communicates effectively with supervisors regarding patient care and departmental needs.

13) Engages in continuous professional development through educational opportunities.

14) Participates in required training sessions and meetings.

15) May conduct training sessions for staff on patient care protocols.

16) Complies with safety and infection control policies.

17) Acts as a resource for satellite clinics, assisting in patient care coordination.

18) Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1) Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

2) Valid Registered Nurse license in the state of Iowa.

3) Certification in CPR and Mandatory Reporter training.

4) Preferred clinical experience in acute care settings, with oncology experience being advantageous.

5) Strong interpersonal skills are essential.

Physical Requirements:

1) Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination.

2) Ability to assist or lift patients safely, utilizing proper techniques.

3) Capability to stand and walk for extended periods.

4) Awareness of potential exposure to various environmental factors in the workplace.
