About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Oncology Advanced Practice Provider to join our team at Inova Schar Cancer Institute. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality cancer care to our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Triage and manage oncology and hematology patients, working collaboratively with our team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with patients, construct comprehensive medical histories, and perform physical examinations.
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation of patient information, visit history, and lab follow-up in our electronic medical record.
  • Evaluate and manage patients with urgent complaints, determining appropriate patient disposition and escalating to hospital-based care when necessary.
  • Directly perform or order diagnostic studies and interpret finished results.
  • Instruct and counsel patients and families regarding preventive care, medical problems, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
  • Write orders to increase, decrease, or change medications.
  • Identify and record pertinent progress of patients, updating and summarizing charts, and notifying the responsible provider of changes in the patient's condition.
  • Educate and coach fellow staff members, including RNs.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree
  • Possession of current certificate of completion from a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant program
  • Current and valid Virginia licenses
  • Valid, or ability to obtain, DEA
  • 2 years Advanced Practice Oncology experience preferred
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to enjoy long-term relationships with patients
