Job Overview

The Property Financial Controller plays a crucial role in overseeing all financial operations related to resort management, food and beverage services, and retail activities, while ensuring the protection of company assets. This position is accountable for identifying cost-saving opportunities through careful analysis and adherence to company policies. The Property Financial Controller will report to Corporate Resort Accounting and maintain a collaborative relationship with the resort's General Manager and F&B Manager.


Key Responsibilities

Daily Tasks:

  • Verify the accuracy and distribution of daily financial reports.
  • Manage and balance cash and credit card deposits.
  • Safeguard cash assets and ensure timely bank deposits.
  • Engage in daily operational meetings.
  • Address discrepancies in income audits and assist with guest credit adjustments.

Weekly Tasks:

  • Validate accounts payable and payroll expenditures.
  • Review and authorize weekly financial statements.
  • Update labor standards reports and disseminate summaries.
  • Provide a weekly financial report to Corporate Resort Accounting.
  • Assist in billing and correcting folio entries.
  • Process and monitor rental paperwork and revenue reports.

Monthly Tasks:

  • Collaborate with corporate accounting on month-end closing activities.
  • Distribute monthly financial reports to resort management.
  • Conduct financial analysis and variance assessments.
  • Maintain the general ledger and reconcile balance sheets.
  • Perform surprise audits on cash handling.
  • Review accounts receivable aging reports and enforce collection strategies.
  • Oversee rental pool commissions and housekeeping reimbursements.

Annual Tasks:

  • Prepare annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Compile budgets into the required format for HOA meetings.
  • Participate in annual HOA meetings and present accounting documentation.

Supervisory Duties

This role involves directing, coordinating, and evaluating the department's activities. Responsibilities include hiring and training accounting staff, planning and assigning tasks, managing performance, and resolving any issues that arise.


Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; or seven to ten years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience in accounting, preferably within the hospitality sector.
  • Strong analytical and organizational capabilities.
