Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented GI Technician to join our team at Advocate Health. As a GI Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting our medical staff and ensuring the highest level of patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians with patient care activities, including specimen retrieval, preservation, and transportation.
  • Prepare procedure rooms and equipment according to physician specifications, ensuring proper instruments and equipment are available.
  • Perform high-level disinfection and reprocessing of equipment and scopes, adhering to established standards.
  • Clean, calibrate, and maintain equipment, reporting any repairs or issues.
  • Document procedures, images, and patient charges using endoscope and ultrasound information systems.
  • Assist with inventory management, stocking supplies, and receiving ordered materials.
  • Perform various clerical duties, including data entry, scheduling, and patient record compilation.
  • Provide patient positioning and transportation services, utilizing proper techniques and safety protocols.
Requirements
  • GI Technical Specialist (GTS) certification issued by SGNA, obtained within 6 months.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association, obtained within 6 months.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in a nursing assistant, medical assistant, or similar patient care position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shifts.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
  • Must wear lead aprons with the weight resting on shoulders.
  • Must have speech, hearing, and sight for communication during procedures.
