Job Summary:

As a Grading Foreman at Upstone Materials Inc., you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of construction projects. Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate the activities of a crew engaged in utility construction, excavating, and grading for projects such as highways, streets, and site development.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Embracing a Safety-Centric Culture: You will actively support all safety initiatives and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams.
  • Leading by Example: You will promote, execute, and adhere to the company's safety program, encouraging all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safe practices as part of our safety culture.
  • Project Management: You will work closely with superintendents and project managers to ensure that assigned projects remain on time and on budget.
  • Crew Coordination: You will organize and coordinate the daily activities of assigned crew and equipment, delegating tasks and holding individuals accountable.
  • Technical Expertise: You will read and interpret project plans and specifications, understand and follow surveying markers and plans, including slope stakes, control points, lines, and grades.
  • Equipment Operation: You will direct equipment operators to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
  • Supply Chain Management: You will coordinate the supply of materials for assigned projects, ensuring timely delivery of materials to the project site.
  • Employee Development: You will support and promote employee training, mentoring, and development, addressing performance concerns as needed.
  • Administrative Tasks: You will perform administrative tasks, including email correspondence, timecard entry, handling documents and electronic files, and ensuring equipment maintenance inspections are completed to maintain equipment in safe operating condition.
Requirements:
  • Education: A valid driver's license and the ability to maintain a clean driving history are required. A commercial driver's license is preferred.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience working in a specialized construction field and/or related industry, with 1 to 2 years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of construction processes related to the area of responsibility, ability to use a computer and/or mobile device, including use of MS Office, Android, and iOS applications.
Physical Requirements:
  • Physical Demands: Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance, use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), and frequent exposure to typical construction site conditions, including dust and loud noise, and all weather conditions.
