Role Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Coordinator plays a vital role within the Maintenance and Facilities department, contributing significantly to the enhancement and upkeep of educational facilities and grounds. This position is responsible for identifying and executing various tasks and responsibilities on a daily, weekly, and termly basis. Effective communication and the ability to foster positive relationships with staff, students, and contractors at all levels are essential. The Facilities Maintenance Coordinator will report directly to the Maintenance Team Manager and will carry out all assigned duties as directed. Flexibility and reliability in meeting tight deadlines with minimal supervision in a collaborative environment are crucial.

Key Responsibilities

The role encompasses specific duties, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting regular inspections of the grounds to identify hazards, necessary repairs, and required maintenance.
  • Opening and securing school buildings each morning.
  • Managing the procurement of supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Performing repairs, both internal and external, in accordance with the school's maintenance requests and directives from the Maintenance Team Manager or designated personnel.
  • Ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of facilities to comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards, including maintaining the Chemical Register.
  • Adhering to OHS and risk management protocols, addressing health and safety hazards where possible.
  • Willingness to pursue additional training or certifications as required.
  • General upkeep of outdoor areas, including pathways and steps, utilizing appropriate equipment.
  • Basic landscaping duties, including mowing, trimming, weeding, and planting.
  • Coordinating with contractors for scheduled or emergency maintenance tasks.
  • Performing painting and graffiti removal as necessary.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of storage areas.
  • Securing broken windows and doors temporarily until permanent repairs can be made.
  • Assisting with furniture relocation and setup for various school events.
  • Supporting the organization of school functions and events.
  • Conducting maintenance on roofs, gutters, and drains.
  • Documenting maintenance activities and reporting on progress.
  • Responding appropriately to emergency situations and undertaking additional duties as required.
  • Collaborating with cleaning staff on maintenance-related issues.
  • Monitoring security concerns, such as unlocked doors and open windows.
  • Performing other tasks as requested by the Maintenance Team Manager or Principal.
