POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that personnel, students, and the public have access to a safe, appealing, and hygienic environment for work and community activities. This role encompasses a variety of services, including mechanical repairs, general upkeep, and overall maintenance of buildings, equipment, and property.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

CUSTODIAL DUTIES:

  • Conducts sanitization procedures in various facility areas, including restrooms and kitchens.
  • Responds to emergencies to mitigate hazardous conditions, such as spills or broken fixtures.
  • Manages waste disposal by emptying containers and transporting materials to designated areas.
  • Performs physically demanding cleaning tasks using heavy equipment, including mopping and floor maintenance.
  • Engages in routine cleaning activities, such as dusting, window washing, and surface sanitization.
  • Assists in moving heavy furniture and equipment as necessary.
  • Utilizes cleaning chemicals safely and effectively, adhering to established safety protocols.
  • Prepares facilities for events by setting up and arranging furniture and decorations.
  • Orders supplies and equipment needed for custodial tasks.

MAINTENANCE DUTIES:

  • Maintains cleanliness and supplies in restrooms.
  • Provides janitorial support to staff as needed.
  • Ensures the interior of buildings is well-maintained through dusting, polishing, and minor repairs.
  • Conducts floor cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Utilizes approved cleaning agents and tools for effective disinfecting.
  • Manages waste disposal and recycling efforts.
  • Sets up and dismantles equipment for various functions.
  • Performs routine maintenance on buildings and equipment.
  • Conducts minor preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Maintains and cleans tools and equipment.
  • Reports mechanical issues that require external assistance.
  • Identifies and addresses potential safety hazards.
  • Monitors for unauthorized individuals on the premises.
  • Responsible for basic repairs, including painting and plumbing.
  • Completes additional tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, along with experience in operating custodial equipment and fulfilling the physical demands of the role.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written information.
  • Familiarity with building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Capability to diagnose issues and coordinate repairs with external vendors.
  • Knowledge of safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Successful completion of background screening and safety training is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may require flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends. The role involves working under varying conditions and may require physical exertion.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Tasks may involve heavy physical effort, including climbing, lifting, and carrying moderately heavy objects. Exposure to various environmental conditions is expected.
