Summary

This role involves overseeing, directing, and strategizing mechanical maintenance operations at designated wastewater treatment facilities and related sites. Responsibilities include establishing a comprehensive maintenance strategy, collaborating with plant supervisors and personnel to assess maintenance priorities, and formulating a plan to enhance equipment reliability and redundancy. Additionally, the position entails coordinating maintenance requirements with engineers and consultants to create a prioritized list of capital improvement projects, troubleshooting equipment challenges, and engaging in facility upgrades. The role also encompasses budget preparation for maintenance activities at assigned locations, supervising maintenance teams, assisting in resolving complex issues, and fulfilling necessary administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee maintenance supervisors, addressing and resolving maintenance challenges, setting performance expectations, and reviewing ongoing and completed work.
  • Manage internal staff and contractors responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and upkeep of mechanical systems at wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Coordinate the procurement process for maintenance supplies, collaborating with procurement to identify long-term contract requirements and developing specifications to meet facility needs.
  • Plan and manage the budget for assigned areas effectively.
  • Engage in facility upgrades and expansions by collaborating with stakeholders to create a capital improvement project list, justifying maintenance project requirements, and contributing to design discussions.
  • Ensure that upgrades and expansions are designed for ease of maintenance.
  • Regularly review maintenance activities, addressing ongoing issues that may impact compliance with permit regulations, and develop a comprehensive maintenance strategy.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to supervisors on personnel matters, procurement challenges, budget considerations, and other administrative issues.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of assigned staff, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and evaluating performance.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Physical Demands:

This position requires medium physical work, including the ability to frequently exert up to 30 pounds of force and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Essential physical capabilities include balancing, climbing, manual dexterity, lifting, and visual acuity for data and equipment inspections.

Work Environment:

The role is performed in settings with heavy machinery and equipment, necessitating adherence to safety protocols to prevent harm to oneself and others.

Minimum Qualifications
  • An associate degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, millwright, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant work experience, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory capacity.
  • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and pertinent work experience that equips the candidate with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to fulfill the essential job functions.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Preference for candidates with NC AWWA-WEA Grade III Maintenance Technologist Certification or equivalent.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
