Key Responsibilities- Assist the surgical team in preparing the operating room for procedures, including setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
- Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants during surgery, while maintaining a sterile field.
- Help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments to ensure accuracy and prevent errors.
- Assist in the preparation, care, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
- Help apply dressings and prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
- Transport patients to the operating room, help position them on the operating table, and cover them with sterile surgical drapes.
- Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital, or the military.
- Maintenance of certification or completion of an appropriate military training program.
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.
