Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled IEP Facilitator to join our team at Charles County Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, ensuring that students with special needs receive the support and accommodations they require to succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize and manage the IEP process, including scheduling meetings and coordinating with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Chair IEP Team meetings, ensuring that all relevant parties are present and that the meeting is conducted in a productive and respectful manner.
  • Accept referrals from teachers and other school staff, gathering and organizing pertinent information as needed.
  • Invite participants to attend meetings, prepare and distribute agendas, and monitor and update referrals and assessments.
  • Act as a liaison for special education discipline-related problems, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Assist in identifying the special needs of students, working with regular education teachers to prepare referral forms and provide support for special education services.
  • Help interpret special education policy to school-based staff and parents, ensuring that all parties are aware of their rights and responsibilities.
  • Encourage a healthy school atmosphere through effective use of human relations skills, promoting a positive and supportive environment for all students.
  • Monitor IEPs for compliance, reporting to the Director for Compliance and working closely with the Director of Special Education.
  • Provide guidance to school teams and administration regarding IDEA, COMAR, and MSDE policy, ensuring that all special education processes and procedures are followed.
  • Participate in monthly professional learning and ongoing professional development opportunities, staying up-to-date on best practices and emerging trends in special education.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality, handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Hold or be eligible for a Maryland Standard Professional Certificate with special education endorsement.
  • Three years of satisfactory special education classroom teaching experience required.
  • Knowledge and experience with IEP procedures, including administration and interpretation of education assessments.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and planning skills in an educational environment.
  • Ability to work professionally and discreetly with confidential information.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
Working Conditions

The environmental factors and physical requirements of this position include:

  • Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds.
  • Good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and visual acuity to use a keyboard.
