Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Renaissance Prep Academy in La Verne, CA. As a member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will work collaboratively with psychologists, child care staff, parents, and therapists to develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) for severely emotionally disturbed (SED) students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement multi-sensory IEPs for SED students, ensuring a safe and structured learning environment.
  • Participate in IEP meetings to develop and review educational plans, assessing student progress and reporting accomplishments.
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to develop, implement, and facilitate each student's overall treatment plan and IEP.
  • Administer formal and informal assessments to determine baseline levels of functioning and measure student progress.
  • Utilize current teaching methods and strategies to design lesson plans that engage students in the learning process, ensuring opportunities for all students to actively participate.
  • Develop and implement effective behavior management techniques, maintaining a structured and organized educational environment.
  • Develop and maintain individual and classroom records, ensuring confidentiality and preparing daily student evaluation reports.
  • Counsel students on classes required to meet graduation standards, as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Special Education Credential or credential eligible.
  • Demonstrated skill in working with emotionally disturbed children or adolescents.
  • Demonstrated skill in behavior management.
  • Demonstrated skill in curriculum development.
  • Ability to pass and utilize Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) within three months of hire.
  • Ability to pass and utilize First Aid and CPR certification within three months of hire.
Working Conditions

In the course of performing this job, the incumbent typically spends time standing, walking on sloped/hilly areas of campus, carrying, driving, lifting (up to 40 pounds), listening, speaking, reaching, writing, and participating in restraint procedures.
