Senior Safety Coordinator

SUMMARY: The Senior Safety Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effectiveness of the Safety program within the facility. This position is tasked with the ongoing maintenance, enhancement, and compliance of the training program in alignment with federal safety standards, state regulations, and corporate directives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Safety Coordinator is expected to:

  • Oversee the plant's safety initiatives by:
    • Conducting comprehensive safety and OSHA training sessions; leading the safety committee and its members.
    • Performing facility audits and implementing necessary recommendations.
    • Maintaining OSHA recordkeeping and updating the Safety Engineer on any changes.
    • Assisting in the development and management of the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) program.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and effective housekeeping practices.
  • Manage the investigation of accidents and injuries, ensuring thorough reporting and analysis.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Engineer and Plant Manager to uphold safety and workers' compensation performance.
  • Assist in the administration of Workers' Compensation claims and the transitional work program.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections of the plant to address unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Review construction projects to ensure adherence to corporate safety guidelines.
  • Take on additional responsibilities and special projects as directed.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring to maintain compliance with local regulations.
  • Train personnel on safety protocols to ensure adherence to corporate standards.
  • Compile and distribute safety performance statistics to enhance employee awareness.
  • Lead detailed root cause investigations for incidents, potentially at various facilities.
  • Participate in Lean initiatives to promote safety improvements.
  • Support the Safety Engineer in corporate safety reporting.
  • Conduct audits at other sites to promote safety awareness and practices.
  • Mentor new Safety Coordinators to integrate them into the company’s safety culture.
  • Facilitate Safety Coordinator Team meetings regularly.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficient in root cause analysis and advanced incident investigation methods.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant safety regulations and legislative requirements.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized self-starter with a proactive approach.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong leadership capabilities to motivate and enhance health and safety processes.
  • Proficient in computer applications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to navigate stairs and ladders.
  • Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Willingness to wear personal protective equipment as required.
  • Ability to read, communicate, and analyze information effectively.
  • Physical ability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Availability for on-call duties as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role involves a blend of technical analysis and administrative responsibilities, requiring time spent in office, production, and laboratory settings. A significant portion of the work will occur on the production floor.

  • Collaborate closely with management, supervisors, and plant personnel.
  • Work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
  • Adapt to moderate to high noise levels in the work environment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in safety or a related field, or have over 10 years of experience in a safety-focused role. Preference will be given to candidates with OHST, ASP/GSP, or CSP certifications.
