POSITION OVERVIEW
The Corporate Relations Advancement Officer plays a crucial role within the Culinary Institute of America's (CIA) Advancement Division, specifically within the Corporate Relations (CR) team. This position is responsible for overseeing the Gift-in-Kind (GIK) Equipment Curriculum Program, which is essential for advancing the strategic and financial objectives of the Institute through the development and management of a robust GIK Equipment initiative. The Advancement Officer will collaborate closely with various teams within the Advancement Division to manage the GIK program and other key partnerships that support the CIA's strategic and financial goals. Additionally, this role involves identifying, cultivating, and soliciting annual contributions, establishing multi-year agreements with key prospects and donors, with annual revenue targets of $1,000,000 or more for GIK Equipment and $250,000 or more for personal portfolios.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising:
- Lead the GIK Equipment Curriculum Program, aiming to secure over $1 million annually in donated smallwares and capital equipment that enhance CIA's culinary education across multiple campuses.
- Identify and engage new equipment manufacturers while strengthening relationships with existing donors to increase philanthropic support.
- Facilitate donor cultivation through campus visits, tours, business meetings, and other experiences that encourage giving.
- Manage a portfolio of up to 150 donors, ensuring annual gift solicitation goals of $250,000+ to support various events and initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with a diverse audience of industry leaders, including executives in marketing, business development, sales, and corporate foundations.
- Oversee relationships with over 70 equipment manufacturing donors, each with unique terms related to donations, campus usage, and allotments. Conduct monthly meetings with key internal stakeholders.
- Prepare agreements and proposals necessary for soliciting prospective donors.
- Implement a strategic travel schedule to meet with prospects and donors at industry events and CIA-sponsored conferences.
- Manage stewardship efforts for individual donor portfolios, collaborating with the CR team as needed.
- Work with the Advancement Communications Manager to create cohesive stewardship strategies.
- Develop corporate foodservice case studies and materials for donor recognition and stewardship.
- Contribute to monthly CR Donor Report Cards and participate in weekly Marketing/Communications meetings.
- Maintain updated corporate contacts and track progress using relevant systems.
- Build relationships with constituents to support CIA's major events, such as Leadership Awards and Alumni events.
- Attend and assist with key fundraising events and meetings focused on business development.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in fundraising, advancement, development, communications, business, finance, or a related field.
- Three to five years of progressive experience in fundraising, sales, purchasing, or higher education, demonstrating a successful track record.
- Proven success in previous corporate, foundation, and organizational roles.
- Familiarity with the food service industry, including knowledge of food products, equipment, and services.
- Experience in purchasing, corporate fundraising, or food and beverage operations within hospitality or foodservice sectors.
- Understanding of coordination with purchasing, accounting, and distribution processes.
- Previous experience in business development.
- Exceptional strategic, tactical, and organizational skills, coupled with high energy and self-motivation.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities, with excellent project management skills.
- Demonstrated facilitation, presentation, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Collaborative problem-solving approach, with the ability to articulate and interpret organizational vision.
- Strong teamwork, adaptability, and interpersonal skills, capable of managing multiple priorities under pressure.
- Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly, maintaining ethical standards and integrity.
