The Climate Control Specialist is responsible for the operation and upkeep of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems throughout all Pacific Lutheran University facilities. This role also includes performing preventive maintenance on air intake and exhaust systems. The position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Operate and maintain a variety of systems including HVAC units, chillers, gas heating systems, and heaters.
  • Collaborate with the Preventive Maintenance team and Building Engineer.
  • Conduct routine inspections, cleaning, and repairs on HVAC equipment.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for system repairs.
  • Address temperature control issues and resolve routine operational problems.
  • Inspect and operate air-conditioning units to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain, repair, and test HVAC systems and instruments.
  • Drain systems and perform necessary adjustments.
  • Execute other assigned tasks as needed.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Proficient in heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems.
  • Basic knowledge of computerized control systems.
  • Skilled in using relevant tools and equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude for emergency and intricate repairs.

  • Experience with soldering, brazing, and refrigerant systems.
  • Understanding of electrical systems and piping methodologies.

**Required Qualifications:**

  • Minimum of three years of experience in HVAC systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CFC Handler Certification.
  • Valid driver's license.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

  • Familiarity with fire safety codes.
  • Understanding of computer systems utilized in HVAC operations.

**Work Environment:**

  • Varied working conditions with exposure to different environmental factors.
  • Work around heavy machinery and tools.
  • Occasional tasks in challenging locations and noisy settings.
  • On-call opportunities available with additional compensation.

**Physical Requirements:**

  • Capability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, climbing, and lifting.
  • Good hearing and vision are essential.
  • Strength to lift and maneuver heavy objects.
